The monthly Experiences in Digital Learning webinars from CDE and the 91app Institute in Paris provide the opportunity to explore the rapid innovations and changes we are seeing in digital learning, teaching and assessment.

Our next Experience in Digital Learning webinar takes place on Thursday 5 May at 14.00 – 15.00 BST. In this webinar we will explore the hybrid experience and student wellbeing.

The pandemic continues to impact on the student experiences, and in particular the student learning experience. This may mean students engage online only, experience both online and separate face-to-face components of learning, or are in learning events in which there are both online and face-to-face participants in the same room (which we may term as a hybrid experience). There is the further complexity of synchronous and asynchronous learning and teaching. In this session we explore the impact of the diversity of experiences on student wellbeing.

In this webinar Nichola Gretton, University of Leicester’s Digital and Learning Innovation Manager and CDE Fellow, will share a case study of their pedagogical, practice, platform and policy position on hybrid learning and teaching, through a student wellbeing lens. Hybrid learning and teaching has played a large part in the University of Leicester’s response to the pandemic. The current academic year has seen the re-introduction of face-to-face teaching, alongside numerous strong cases for continued flexibility and student choice.

Anshima Varma, President of the Students' Union at the 91app, Institute in Paris (ULIP), will be sharing the views and opinions of students toward hybrid teaching and learning, along with the hurdles of this system. Hybrid teaching and learning have been a considerable change for students all over the world. Within ULIP's context, the return to onsite learning has brought out strong points for continued hybrid teaching and learning. There has been a balance of student voices advocating for the hybrid model along with the onsite model. The student views all point toward a need for a flexible approach to teaching and learning in order to provide the most effective learning environment for students.

Our panel includes:

Linda Amrane-Cooper, Director of CDE (Chair)

Nichola Gretton, Digital and Learning Innovation Manager at the University of Leicester.

Anshima Varma, President of the Students' Union at the 91app, Institute in Paris.  Anshima is a 3rd-year student studying International Politics with French at the 91app, Institute in Paris. For the past ten months, Anshima has acted as the President of the Students' Union, working to voice and address feedback of the students regarding their education and time at ULIP. Within the ever-changing covid context, Anshima has participated in online and hybrid learning from the viewpoint of a student and has seen the shift back to in-person classes during her time as SU president. Her research interests are focused on topics of neo-colonialism in the 21st century and are currently being explored through her final year research project.
