Luis Pereira is Senior Lecturer in Educational Development in the Department of Learning Enhancement and Development (LEaD) at City, 91app and Programme Co-Director of the MA in Academic Practice.
Luis Pereira is Senior Lecturer in Educational Development in the Department of Learning Enhancement and Development (LEaD) at City, 91app, where he is Programme Co-Director of the MA in Academic Practice. He has more than 20 years of experience in education as a lecturer, researcher, learning technologist and academic developer and has a strong background in digital media education and academic development and a genuine passion for driving innovation in the field.
Luis completed his PhD in digital media education at the University of Minho (Portugal) in 2012. Prior to joining City in 2022, he worked at Imperial College London as a Senior Academic Developer, managing a team of academic developers, and at Coventry, Bournemouth, Oxford and Ravensbourne.
During his time at Coventry University, he led the digital development and implementation of their first online MBA. His research is the result of the intersection between digital media, learning and digital society. He contributed learning materials to a MOOC on Media and Information Literacy developed by the United Nations University (UNU-GOV). He looks at digital and online education from a media/information literacies perspective. He has been part of different fora to discuss how to promote digital and critical skills and was appointed as the Training Officer of the CILIP Information Literacy Group in 2023.
Luis has disseminated best teaching practices institution-wide through toolkits, newsletters, websites, case studies, and micro conferences. He has also (co-)organised different events in an academic environment; for instance, in 2017, a Training School on Digital Competence, supported by the European Project European Literacy Network, where international experts were invited to discuss key concepts of media literacy and digital skills.
Luis is a Senior Fellow of HEA/Advance HE and a mentor, empowering colleagues to embed reflective practice and enhance their teaching by celebrating their strengths and achievements.
