Collection Description
Senate House Library views exile not only as a historical event, but as a critical paradigm—a lens through which to interrogate how knowledge, culture, and belonging are shaped and transformed. In this context, exile becomes a dynamic space for reimagining transnational identities and exploring displacement as a condition of modern thought.
The collections support this area through diverse materials in literature, philosophy, history, music, and visual culture, reflecting how exilic figures—writers, artists, philosophers—have created new modes of expression and resistance.
Holdings include significant resources documenting the experiences of ethnic minorities in publishing and print culture, as well as works supporting the preservation of minority and endangered languages.
